Chief Physician, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor at Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH). He is the Chief Expert and Academic Leader of the Vascular Surgery Department. He specializes in the endovascular treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms, endovascular repair of aortic dissections, surgical treatment of chronic or acute lower extremity ischemia, carotid endarterectomy, endovascular treatment of carotid artery stenosis, subclavian artery stenosis, visceral artery stenosis, and the surgical treatment of various thromboembolic diseases. Dr. Liu graduated from the Medical Department of Norman Bethune University of Medical Sciences in 1984 and joined the Surgery Department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital in the same year. He has focused on vascular surgery since 1992 and visited the United States twice (in 1996 and 1998) to study vascular surgery techniques and endovascular minimally invasive treatments. Upon returning to China, he pioneered minimally invasive treatments for vascular diseases, establishing a new paradigm of endovascular minimally invasive treatment in PUMCH's vascular surgery department by combining traditional surgery with endovascular therapy. He has extensive clinical experience and solid theoretical foundations, particularly excelling in the surgical and minimally invasive treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms, endovascular repair of acute aortic dissections, carotid endarterectomy and stenting for carotid stenosis, as well as the surgical and interventional treatment of lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans. He serves as the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the American SCI journal 'Annals of Vascular Surgery', Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese 'Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery', and holds editorial positions in numerous other core medical journals. As a science popularization expert for the National Health Commission and Beijing Municipal Health Commission, his authored book 'Battle for Blood Vessels' is highly popular among readers.
