Dr. Chen Xiaowei specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of various types of deafness and ear malformations, with a particular focus on rare congenital deafness and ear malformation syndromes. Her clinical expertise includes minimally invasive cochlear implant procedures, implantation of bone conduction hearing devices (Bonebridge, Ponto, BAHA), surgical repair of microtia and otoplasty, ear canal reconstruction for congenital external auditory canal stenosis, and hearing reconstruction for various external and middle ear malformations. She also provides treatment and genetic consultation for congenital hearing loss and conducts clinical research and hearing interventions for presbycusis and unilateral deafness. Dr. Chen earned her MD from Peking Union Medical College and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Rochester Hearing Research Center. She has pioneered standardized evaluation systems for congenital ear malformations in China and established a multidisciplinary team (MDT) for rare deafness and ear malformation syndromes associated with cardiac anomalies. To date, she has performed over 1,000 cochlear implant surgeries, reconstructed outer ears for over 600 patients with congenital microtia, and completed ear canal or hearing reconstruction surgeries for over 100 patients with bilateral conductive deafness. Her team was the first in China to introduce the clinical application of bone conduction hearing aids for infants with congenital external and middle ear malformations. Additionally, she played a key role in the 'Beijing Newborn Deafness Gene Screening Demonstration Project' and established a rare deafness disease base at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, providing genetic counseling and screening for over 160,000 cases.
